15 – 21 March Cultural Diversity Week. Cultural Diversity on the Goldfields
Explore the cultural diversity of the goldfields through a rotation of activities involving Indigenous goldfields history, the Immigration experience, the Chinese on the goldfields and music of the world. Two 90 minute sessions will be run at 11.00 am and 1.00pm daily, (Years 3 – 6, max 80). Free for affiliated schools, $2.00 per student from other schools.
7 May Ballarat Catholic Education Week Mass in St Alipius
This special event is run in conjunction with the Ballarat Catholic Education Office. Student leaders from local Catholic schools will be invited to celebrate mass in Sovereign Hill’s St Alipius Church. Free by invitation
17 – 21 May Education Week Sustainability in the Nineteenth Century
What can we learn about the future from the past? Two 90 minute sessions will be conducted at 11.00 am and 1.00pm daily, (Years 4 – 6, max 80). Free for affiliated schools, $2.00 per student from other schools.
2 August Horses Birthday
Primary students are invited to help celebrate the annual Horses’ Birthday. The program includes mucking out the stables, harnessing and grooming and a coach ride. A fun day for all from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm, (max 120). Free for affiliated schools, $2.00 per student from other schools.
16 – 20 August Science Week Biodiversity at Narmbool
Come to Narmbool Lodge and celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity during Science Week. Students will engage in a rotation of science and art activities that explore the importance of conserving our biodiversity. Two-hour sessions begin at 10am and 1pm. Maximum of 90 students per session. Free for affiliated schools $10 per student others.
23 – 27 August Book Week Across the Story Bridge
This popular activity is for primary schools. Join in a rotation of literacy and art activities centred on this year’s shortlisted books. Two 90 minute sessions will be run at 11.00 am and 1.00pm daily, (max 60) Free for affiliated schools, $2.00 per student from other schools.
Watch out for History Week History Week at Sovereign Hill
History Week will be special at Sovereign Hill, offering you and you students an insider’s view of the Outdoor Museum.
25 - 29 October Children’s Week Hercules the Horse
Read Hercules the Horse – a picture story book set at Sovereign Hill – and then be involved in literacy activities about the book. Two 90 minute session will be conducted at 10.30am and 1.00pm daily. (max 30).Suitable for P-2. Free for affiliated schools, $2.00 per student from other schools.
29 November – 10 December Christmas in the Colonies
This ever popular activity involves students in a 90 minute rotation of activities exploring and enjoying Christmas in the 1850s. Sessions conducted at 11.00 am and 1.00pm daily, (max 80) Free for affiliated schools, $2.00 per student from other schools.
3 December Eureka Day
Help us commemorate the Eureka uprising of 1854. 10.30 am to 12.00 noon. Suitable for Years 3-6. (max 100) Free for affiliated schools, $2.00 per student from other schools.
