These activities are designed to encourage locating and skim-reading skills. They involve using simple word processing features like Copy and Paste but could easily be adapted to traditional methods. Teachers may find it easier to download the necessary files onto a CD for student use.

The following tasks are in groups from easiest to hardest. Choose the challenges most suited to the level you are teaching.

Students then surf the Sovereign Hill Education Service site to find the answers. Most answers will be found in the Research Notes of the Students section of the site. They will have to use indexes to find the most suitable titles and then skim-read to locate relevant information. Students are also expected to reference and use quotes in a suitable manner.

Some facts may be difficult to find. The last tasks asks students to become experts and extend their research beyond this web site.

Teachers may receive an answer sheet by telephoning the Education Service on (03) 5337 1188. For security, answers will not be sent to email requests.
